Q1. You have been active in politics since 2004. What motivated you to enter public life?
My inspiration came from the desire to serve society and address the real issues faced by people at the grassroots level. Nalanda district has a rich political and intellectual heritage, and I always believed that educated individuals should step forward to participate in public service.
Since the beginning of my journey, my focus has been on empowering youth, strengthening political organization, and ensuring that the voices of marginalized communities are heard.
Q2. Your political journey includes several key leadership roles. How have these experiences shaped your approach to politics?
Every role has been a learning experience.
- From 2005–2007, I served as State General Secretary of the Student Wing of JDU, where I worked extensively with young students and youth leaders.
- From 2007–2010, as State General Secretary of Rashtriya Samta Party, I focused on strengthening the party structure and grassroots coordination.
- Between 2011–2013, as National General Secretary of Rashtriya Lok Samta Party, I gained exposure to national-level political strategy.
- Since 2014, I have been serving as District President of Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) in Nalanda, where my priority has been to expand the party’s reach and work for social justice.
Politics requires patience, dedication, and continuous engagement with people.

Q3. Recently, you mobilized a large number of workers for the Constitutional Rights Delimitation Reform Rally in Patna. Tell us about that initiative.
Yes, the rally held in Patna was an important event aimed at raising awareness about constitutional rights and delimitation reforms.
Under my leadership, around 15,000 workers and supporters from Nalanda district travelled to Patna to participate in the rally. A large convoy of vehicles and thousands of enthusiastic supporters joined the movement.
The purpose of the rally was not just political demonstration; it was about raising the voice for justice, equality, and representation for marginalized communities. Across Nalanda, people welcomed the workers with party flags, banners, and flowers, showing their support for the cause.
The rally was also organized on the martyrdom day of Bihar Lenin, Shaheed Jagdev Prasad, whose vision for social justice continues to inspire our movement.
Q4. You have also spoken strongly about leadership in Bihar politics. What is your perspective on the future of leadership in the state?
Bihar needs strong leadership that prioritizes social justice and inclusive development. I believe Upendra Kushwaha represents a strong and capable leader who can carry forward the fight for equality and empowerment of marginalized communities.
The rally in Patna also conveyed a message that leaders who stand firmly for social justice must be given the opportunity to lead and shape Bihar’s future.

Q5. Apart from politics, Sonu Kumar Kushwaha have been active in environmental awareness. Tell us about that work.
Environmental protection is extremely important for the future of our society. Due to my continuous efforts and dedication toward environmental awareness and conservation, I was honored to be appointed Green Ambassador by Earth Companions Foundation.
I believe political leaders should also promote environmental responsibility and encourage communities to participate in protecting nature.
Q6. You are also involved in several social service initiatives. What kind of work have you been doing at the community level?
Social service has always been an important part of my life.
Every year, especially during winters, we organize blanket distribution drives for underprivileged families. In flood-prone regions of Bihar, I have also been involved in distributing medical kits and relief materials to affected communities.
These initiatives are small steps toward supporting people during difficult times. Public service should continue beyond politics.
Q7. You contested the 2020 Bihar Assembly Election from Nalanda. What did that experience teach you?
Contesting the 2020 Bihar Assembly Election from the 176 Nalanda Assembly constituency was a significant experience. It allowed me to interact with thousands of people and understand their expectations closely.
Elections help leaders connect with ground realities, and they strengthen the bond between representatives and the public.
Q8. With an M.Sc. in Mathematics, how does your academic background influence your political thinking?
Mathematics teaches logical thinking, discipline, and structured problem-solving. These qualities are very useful in politics and governance.
Policy decisions require analytical thinking, planning, and careful evaluation. My academic background helps me approach problems with clarity and balance.
Q9. What message would you give to young people who want to enter politics?
Young people should enter politics with the intention of serving society. Politics is not just about positions — it is about responsibility.
If you remain committed to public welfare and work consistently at the grassroots level, people will trust you and leadership opportunities will follow naturally.
